New international collaboration: Meike van Riel heads to Germany!
Starting this September, Meike van Riel is joining forces with Gallery Lächelt in Wismar, Germany. On September 9th, a group exhibition will open where she will make her debut with two of her artworks. This exhibition marks the beginning of a long-term partnership, as Gallery Lächelt will officially represent her in the gallery.
Meike van Riel is currently working on a series of large canvases, in which she extends her scrutiny for simplicity. This simplicity is reflected in the delicate use of color and composition; applying multiple layers and hues within the same line of color. This presents a clean and soothing image at a glance.
A recent collection of large minimalist paintings provide a response to today's complex society. She portrays tranquility and simplicity. She appreciates the viewer transcending into this imagery.
The collection consists of ten works measuring 1.25 by 1.25 meters. These diverse and minimalist pieces all seem to represent a single color, but those who look closely will discover subtle color nuances and consequently grasp the composition. Van Riel challenges the viewer to allow a moment to interpret the work.
A large portion of this series of minimalist, large-scale works was on display at Galerie Rob Rademaker in March and May 2026.
Meike van Riel opens her studio about three times a year. You can also book a private visit year-round by appointment.
