Recent work 2026

After painting the Shapes series, Meike van Riel discovers a new fascination. In her work, suggestions of landscapes appear more and more frequently, images that focus on the horizon of a seascape.

During this process, the realization grows that the sea can serve as a metaphor for a new theme: freedom. From this idea, she translates her observations into abstract compositions, in which a clear concept forms the foundation.

The horizon is depicted as a sharp line or a subtle division within the whole. At the same time, she applies techniques previously developed in her Solo's, allowing her recent, more conceptual series to maintain a clear connection with her earlier work.
